How they compare
Looking for a Heritage Cookbook alternative?
We make Mise, so we are not neutral. Here is what a cookbook-only maker does differently: it starts at 20 pages, it reads recipes in for you, and your relatives can add theirs without signing up.
Heritage's side is taken from its own FAQ, pricing and how-it-works pages, read on 26 October 2026. Their site is the authority if it has changed since.
Three differences
Where Mise differs
Heritage describes typing recipes into its page editor, pasting them in, or scanning a handwritten card and placing it as a picture. Mise reads a recipe from a photo, a link or pasted text into ingredients and steps you can edit, so a stack of cards does not have to be retyped.
Both let you invite relatives to add recipes. At Heritage each person makes an account first. At Mise they open a link, type their recipe, and see on the same screen what it will look like in the book. One less thing for a grandparent to get stuck on.
Heritage's hardcovers start at 80 pages. A Mise hardcover starts at 20, and $39 covers the first 20: a good fit for a small, focused book of one person's recipes, in one of three finished templates.
The price
What a short hardcover costs
One full-color hardcover, one copy, shipping not included. Heritage's figure comes from the calculator on its pricing page (26 October 2026); a page is one side of a sheet in both places.
The books are not the same size: Heritage's hardcover is 7 × 10 inches and Mise's is larger, so a page holds more here.
Questions
Can I make a hardcover cookbook under 80 pages?
At Mise, yes — a hardcover starts at 20 pages. Heritage Cookbook states that its hardcover and softcover books have an 80-page minimum, with a 20-page minimum for its coil and wiro bindings.
Do my relatives need an account to add their recipes?
Not at Mise: they open an invite link, type their recipe and see how it will look in the book, and are asked to save an account afterwards. Heritage Cookbook says contributors create their own account once they accept an invitation.
Do I have to retype my recipes?
Not at Mise. You import a recipe from a photo, a link or pasted text and it arrives as a structured recipe you can edit. Heritage Cookbook describes typing recipes into its editor, pasting them in, or scanning a handwritten card and placing it as a picture.
